I'm having a problem with my Contender base ring twisting. I have a Chinese ergonomic ring off of an old A272. I really love the design and would love to use it on the Contender. Has anyone modified one of these. It looks pretty simple.
I found an ovalized ring works well for me. Many like the round ring. I can’t stand square profile rings. Anyway Mark made me one that was 1/8” out of round that worked great. normally his oval base rings are 1/16”. Just ask him.
I spoke with Mark about modifying my Asian ergonomic ring to fit my Contender. The process would involve removing the old lock cylinder, polishing it smooth, filling the 2 guide pin holes and installing the lock pin shaft. Also it would need a half inch gap at the bottom. I shipped it out on Monday and got it back today Friday. Marks work was flawless and to exact specifications. I ended up needing to adjust the gap measurement a tad bit wider. Even though the base ring is much thicker it only weighs about an ounce more @ 4.5 oz.
I've worn this new configuration for about six hours now. The spinning issues have been resolved. The device sits straight and since it can't move kinda sticks out a bit. It really has a different feel to it. I can really feel the weight of the ring on the base of my cock.
Wow, that's sort of the Holy Grail for me, matching the wonderful chinese ergonomic back rings with a custom cage!
Was your original ring oval? I noticed the rotating issue is directly related to if/where you apply coconut oil etc. I love the cheap ring. Very comfortable.
Yes actually it was. I found it super uncomfortable and ended up going with a slightly smaller round one. That set up worked fine except for the spin issues. That's when I had Mark rework my Chinese ergonomic ring. The reworked ring was not wearable when I first got it. I had Mark set the gap on the bottom to 1/2 inch. I ended up adjusting it myself to 3/4". I've made several other modifications since then including reducing the base ring width. The entire device with security screw weighs just under 4.5 oz.
This base ring has become quite a project, but I believe I'm finally finished. Since getting it back from Mark I've reduced the thickness over 3/4 of the circumference. I left the top untouched for fear of damaging the welded areas. It now has a total weight of about 2.5 oz. This is a drop of about 1/2 ounce from from the original Chinese base ring. My original goal was to prevent my Contender from spinning, but not create a weight issue that would cause it to sag. At this point I think I'm as close as I'm going to get.
I did. I used a coarse wheel on my bench grinder to 're move the bulk of the metal. Then a combination of sanding drums on a dremmel followed by lots of wet sanding and hand buffing and polishing. This process takes a while. Good luck!
The Contender with this ring is a great device. I still where it, but I went with a cheap Chinese clone of the Ghost. Ive made a couple of mods to it that make it a little more user friendly. They originally only came in a red and black color style,. I recently purchased a couple more in solid black for under $20 shipped. Ive been using this style device for a couple years now.
Based on your posts, I shaved mine down. Considerably but maybe not as much as yours. It fits good and it is great for about 12 hours then it's just not. I may need to polish more. Also having gap issues at the bottom still being too wide. I recently bought a new setup fronMark and can't wait to get it. Photos below as you can see, I flattened the profile on the front cage side of the ring. Probably still more polishing to do.
It's looking good! Its been a while since i did mine but remember how time consuming all the polishing was. My Contender's small gage wire cage just pinched too much. I much prefer the knock off Ghosts plastic flat bar design and the doubled up base ring prevents it from spinning around.
