Does anyone here know if it’s ok for me to shower whilst wearing my new stainless steel cage?
I read one thing on here about something going wrong with the lock and I am now suddenly rather concerned that the lock might rust and the key simply won’t open the cage!!

Hopefully just a panic moment but if anyone can allay my fear, I’d be most grateful! Thanks!!

The inexpensive Chinese stainless cages are all 300 series (302, 304, 305) stainless and will be fine. The locks, though, are brass with cheap components - and that goes for the padlocks and the barrel or integrated locks.

You can get a better quality padlock at any home supply store. The integrated locks are 6mm barrel locks, and are interchangeable with the German made Holy Trainer locks, available at the Holy Trainer site, and at Keptforher.com (a reputable reseller). If you know what you're looking for, you can buy better Chinese integrated locks. I found a reseller on AliExpress and bought 4 of them. Unfortunately, that seller isn't listed anymore.

However, you can put a few drops of light household oil, sewing machine oil, even olive oil or baby oil in the lock once a week. Put the key in and twist it a couple of times to get the oil in there, and Bob's your uncle.

Thanks Tom - it’s not a $7 Ali Express cage but $50 dollars worth of stainless steel with brass (looking) lock... the oil idea sounds perfect! Much appreciated!

I have one of those inexpensive A272 cages, but I replaced the lock with a better one. Once month or so I remove it for cleaning, and put a few drops of silicone lube in the keyhole.

What kind of device is it? Do you have a link?

EDIT: never mind, it's in your photo pages.

That's the same style ring/lock that I have. You actually do have one of the better style locks. The tumblers are held into the brass body by drilled & pinned holes. The cheaper versions have a thin brass plate on top that is swaged (stamped) into place.

You may still want to buy a spare lock as a backup.

Hah - in that link, the device is actually shown with Holy Trainer stamped/embossed on the keys. So, you should be in good shape.

Tom's spot on. My chinese stainless steel devices haven't rusted. But things like the locks, screws, etc can. The cheep pad locks in particular rust up pretty darn fast. So replacing them should be your primary concern.

Otherwise just make sure to dry properly and have Vaseline, lotion, and maybe some baby powder to deal with chafing. Vaseline is great in the winter when its dry, to hydrate chafed areas and mend the skin. Baby powder is great during the summer to dry moist areas and leave the skin smoother. Last some lotion is good once a day around any potentially chafing areas to help keep your skin smooth and healthy.

But if it rusts close, that is one less thing for each of you, you do not have to worry about it coming off and she does not have to worry about what to do with the key.

If you put a drop of silicone oil (lube, latex polish) in the lock every once in a while, you won't have any troubles.

Well, dang - I zoomed in, and it's HLOY TRANER or something, can't quite make it out. That's funny. Good eye.

My opinion, worth what you paid for it, is to avoid Vaseline or any petroleum based oils (including silicone oi, coconut oil, and baby oil) inside the cage. Oils are difficult to clean, and trap sweat, urine, and bacteria which leads to the funky smell, and possible infection.

Even the open ring cage will be difficult to keep clean with oil, because it will get into the underside. Unless you have an arrangement to remove it a few times a week, stick with a good water soluble lotion. I prefer Gold Bond, but Nivea and other brands are fine.

All sounds good, but after waking up with full blown nighttime erection, I think I seriously need to find a solution here... as stated, flaccid, I’m still not actually reaching the end of this new cage - think smaller is the only way to go.... found this one - with ergonomic ring which is my preference anyway...

That plus the fact it has TURBOPROP in the name... what can possibly go wrong??!! :) :)

    @switchling That's too funny - HLOY TRAINER.

Conventional wisdom with door land pad locks is to avoid oily lubricants to avoid attracting dust that could gum up the mechanism and to use something like graphite, silicone or Teflon. For something that sees regular washing with soap, I don't see that being so important so something like a light machine oil should be fine, maybe even beneficial because it wouldn't wash away so quickly.

These little locks are patterned after those made by, I think, a German company whose name escapes me. They are intended to be inserted into the keyway of old lever (skeleton key) locks on furniture where the old key has been misplaced. There's a message thread somewhere on the Mansion that goes into more detail but there's an American company selling the "real" ones for US$25. I would presume they are also available in Europe.

The Chinese copies I've seen are junk and usually contain only two pins. If you look at the one in the picture linked by Andy, you'll notice how the three pins on the right are evenly spaced and then there's a larger gap between those and the fourth. A sure indicator of very low tolerances in manufacturing.

I haven't tried it but I'm guessing it would be pretty easy to get out one. A small screw driver inserted between the body of the lock, and the locking "paw" would probably snap it right off. If came to it, I think drilling one out would be pretty easy too. The soft brass of the is more or less surrounded by much harder stainless steel that would function as a guide for the drill bit. Perhaps a bit of a challenge while wearing a device, but still quite possible (and safe).

You're right to go smaller. Go to aliexpress and type in "A273 chastity" and look at the same. Same ring you have now and much less expensive.

Note that this cuff ring has a hinge, Hinges can be problematic for long term wear. I do know that there is a model similar to the one you have with a much shorter cage:
    https://www.dhgate.com/store/product/304-stainless-steel-cock-super-small-cage/391830058.html

For the price, you may want to try that style first. From what I see, the style might be called the A273.

Burg-Wachter is the German company who makes a veriety of the unironically named "Lock-blocking" inserts.
    https://www.amazon.co.uk/Burg-Wächter-Lockblocking-Furniture-Cylinder-Diameter/dp/B001BAWCEU?th=1

I haven't found an American version, but I may be asking the wrong questions.

The three pins make the actual key combination for the lock. The fourth one, closest to the locking tab, is the one that limits the movement of the locking tab and the key that they don't turn whole 360 degrees. It's NOT a indicator of very low tolerances in manufacturing, it's essential for the lock to work properly.
