I had a kid (fresh 21 year old) ask for their drink. I give it to them and say "that's$6.50." They then looked at me with confusion. So I asked "do you want to keep a tab going?" Again they looked at me strangely. I said it again. Then they actually said.... "Why can't I just pay for it now?" I said "you can, it's $6.50" Any other bartenders who have these silly silly kids? What better place to bring it up than at another bar?
I was helping out a friend that owned a bar a few years back...that didn't happen but had quite a few younger people ask for a mixed drink in a pint glass. I asked if they wanted a double and they said no. So regular price was 4.00 and I charged them 5.00. They always got upset like I was robbing them. I would explain pop isn't free and I wasn't going to make it cheaper to drink less drinks (nurse a drink all night). Two other pet peeves: know what you want before talking to me at the front of a crowded bar, and ordering a Bloody Mary at night in the middle of a bar rush. I was bartending as a favor so wasn't worried about tips....bloody marys were so awful they didn't ask for another lol
That is so funny. Totally can relate! Or they'll Wave ya down to get a drink, you get to them, they have no idea what they want... Or they'll say "What's you strongest, cheapest drink that's tastes good?". Or " make me something fun!". (flavored vodka, some sort of juice, energy drink.. isn't that fun? ) I realize I've bartended for going on 14years.. but Jesus. I swear it's getting worse! Pet peeve of mine. Don't ask for water unless you're going to drink it!!! No one makes money on water but the water companies!!
Lol, yeah those drinks with the energy drinks in them...they complain about how expensive they are but a can of Red Bull costs almost 2.50, bar actually loses money on those drinks.
Too funny I always get water at a restaurant because I don't like not having a drink. So I do it in case I get horrible service and the waiter or waitress let's my drink go empty. If I'm at a bar, and I ask for water, I'm probably really thirsty and I need water. And I don't do it often. Anyway, I'll tip the bartender a buck unless they're rude. I know it's not much but they usually don't expect it and they tend to be very nice to me the rest of the night.
I have no problem giving water to people,...who drink it! I'm a water hound too and try to stay hydrated when getting drunk, lol... it's the ones who ask for it, with full alcoholic or even non-alcoholic drinks and still don't drink it by the end of the night. I only have so many glasses man! Don't make me wash a cup that has never has been used!!!!
We have We have generic Rockstar so it's cheaper.. but you'll get the people that want the red bull/Rockstar name brand and get mad they have to pay 1.50 more for that drink. I always tell them they can have the stuff on the gun. But not good enough...
I couldn't be a bartender. I applaud all those who can be. I have an allergic reaction to stupid people and I know too many people who get more stupid when they drink.
That's half the problem, are they stupid or just drunk? I do generally love my job.. but I'm going on fourteen years and the younger generation, (at least the drinkers I'm my area) are more socially awkward... No real face to face people skills. Which is so much fun to fuck with sometimes, but bothersome after a 10-12 hour shift! (Which was where I was at when I posted this)
