I'm not sure what you mean - if you want to start threads in French, then that would be a sorry - but no. This is an English language forum.

But you can paste the URL of this forum into Google translate and it will present you with a hilariously bad version of the site in your chosen language. Some will be surprisingly good, but there will be some parts google would struggle with.

There are some members on here whose first language isn't English and they could, if they wished, use their own language to write in the forums. The reason they don't and use English is that they desire their comments to be read and understood by as many members as possible. What's the point of writing comments in other languages if most of the readers can't understand a word of it ????

Yes, other languages are allowed. We have had some Spanish ones in the past.

I am agonizingly English. I am trying to learn German as I have moved to Germany and being able to speak the language could be seen as a definite advantage! It is so embarrassing, I work with people who are polyglots. I have watched someone have a three way conversation in English, German and Hungarian without having to pause to think between each switch, it was awesome.

Anyway, as a user of this forum and not a moderator I would have no problem if there were threads in other languages. We want to spread the word and get more cultures involved, so allowing the word to be in the native tongue of the user would be a good start.

thats also funny when i started to realise it just now , i speak frisian dutch and english fluenty i would say and my german is also quit ok so thats 4 languages but here in holland thats not considered a lot its quit normal.
i can understand basic swedish as well...now my GF and KH also speak swedish finnish and english fluently and understand dutch well.

so its quit a mix of languages although english is our main as that isthe one we both speak fluently.

Prima facie that sounds good , but how would you read , understand or reply to a thread written in a language you were not fully compliant with ??

And beyond that, how are we supposed to moderate threads in languages we don't understand?

I'm with subverity on this. I can simply ignore anything written in french, moderators, plural, need to fully understand postings, including any nuances. If people aren't happy with English either find or create a site in another language.

I suppose I am by nature inclusive. I voted with my feet after the Brexit referendum and decided to stay in Germany. I hate the idea that other people have decided my future for me based on misinformation. Where others would see language as a barrier I see it as an opportunity. I would rather we were a forum that had English as its core language where different cultures could meet and discuss our experiences, but where we allowed people to discuss things also in their native tongue as well.

I do see the problem that Moderators would have but wonder why couldn't we have junior moderators who are chosen for their language abilities? They would have limited powers with the task of checking all threads that are written in their language.

We do have English as the core language but that is different from enforcing our language on others at all cost.

Estoy muy contento a leer threads en espanol. Los monoglotos son los inglese y los norte Americanos?
Jasmic68 you do speak German I hope. You aren't a English language colonialist?
