I was wondering if others have this same issue. Even after wearing my Jailbird 24/7 for a few weeks I wonder if I am still getting used to the base ring. I always have one spot to the right of my penis that the base ring always seems to rub raw, even though I liberally apply lubrication. So I will remove the device to let the skin heal and have a day or so I'm ready to lock back up. I notice though that I always have a red ring where the base ring previously was. I was wondering if anyone else has this as well. I am pretty certain I have the correctly sized base ring and was just wondering if this is normal or not.
It doesn't seem normal. I've had CBs and have a Jailbird. A little is normal but what you describe sounds like an allergic reaction if it's everywhere you contact the ring, or a rough spot if it's only certain spots. MM does incredible work, but if it's the later I'd contact them and see if they can fix the ring. Normally they're smooth but it's possible somehow you got one that just isn't as smooth as normal. If it's the former, I think you also need to contact them. So I guess you need to contact them and discusss what's going on. They're great folks who have a ton of knowledge and will do what they can to help you. I'd love for you to share what they tell you after you talk with them, but until you do all we can do is guess and the above are my guesses.
Run your finger around the ring lightly. Start lightly then go the next round with a little more pressure. Keep upping the pressure to see if you can feel a rough spot. You might be lucky enough to find a rough spot that will disappear with a few light strokes of a hand file.
Ive had multiple devices (plastic & steel) and Ive had one spot on the left side of the lock area that gets a sore spot. It has to be a bit of raised or lumpy flesh that is undetectable to the touch. Over time wearing the device and removing to heal it has hardened over but once i stop wearing a cage (for any reason) it will soften back up and ill repeat everything.
You may find a hand file is too abraizive and might be better using some light grades of emery paper.. it will take longer but will not scratch as deeply. 'Emery Paper' is both a US and UK term.
I have a red ring as well. It fits perfectly, it's smooth as silk and there are no defects in the metal. What I have gathered on it is that it is caused by a combination of things. I wear mine constantly and grooming under is limited, the hair and skin getting pulled and pushed on, irritates the skin. After a shower it's hard to completely dry, and adding lotion is only a temporary fix...it dries quickly and skin grabs again. And finally the one that is preventable...take more showers. I was on a routine that I took a shower in the morning and one after work, and everything seemed a lot happier around my cage.
I had a hot spot too at one time. It went away over time. Your skin should toughen up at some point. In year 5 my Jailbird is only noticeable when I think about it. Very comfy just like my wedding ring.
I used the very narrow side of the file, used only 2 very light strokes and it was smooth. Emery cloth would have covered too much area and left additional scratches. I am very good at using tools.
