For the same reason that having time off from work results in increased productivity, I suspect there is value in people having "time off" from parts of their relationships. Parents routinely do this when they hire babysitters or leave their children with family. The problem is that is not something that one party gets to unilaterally decide, especially when that party is the subordinate member in a relationship with a power dynamic. It would also be a mistake to give someone a "break" from the rules until they have proven that they are capable of consistently following them.
