I've worn a SteelWorxx Looker 01 and a Steelheart 2, both with urethral cages, for a week at a time with no ill effects but your mileage may vary. I sometimes would put some Neosporin (an antibiotic ointment) on the tube when inserting it. The SteelWorxx devices are very high quality. I would be less comfortable with a cheap device or a hybrid silicone-steel tube, which has cracks where bacteria could gather. Staying well hydrated also helps with UTIs. The only time I ever got a UTI is when I inserted am unsterilized Foley catheter that was too big (too thick) and probably caused a little trauma.

 

Go for a short urethral tune. `no longer than the A ring.
Get a removable one in case you don't like it.
Keep it clean.

The use of an intra urethral device carries ALWAYS the risk of infection with unpredictable consequences. In an hospital setting catheterization is done with medical grade devices, professionally sterilized, nevertheless within a week or so, a low bacterial count can be detected in the urine of the patient and often this infection last for long time even after the removal of the catheter. These low or minimal symptomatic infections can progress into a serious infections that requires aggressive therapy. I have been catheterized several time during sex play by a couple of sex partners that are registered nurses and I have tried also sounding with sounds that were sterilized in a professional autoclave. my advice is to be EXTREMELY careful with urethral insertion games an to avoid mixed silicon/metal devices. Only medical grade stainless steel catheters (heat sterilized) should go into your body.
