Has anyone else experienced the issue where the ring does not fit "snugly" into the cage slot, and can be wiggled in the hole such that the ball gap increases quite a bit?

Even with the lock in place, my ring can be moved in it's slot so much that my balls can escape. There is just too much play in the way they fit together. (not in and in-n-out way, but in a rotational way, like the angle is widened. I hope that makes sense.

Is this common with all the CK devices or did I get one that's a bad fit?

I have zero play in all my CK cages to ring fit. Now there is flex in the nylon material that can very the ball gap slightly.

I have 3 different cages and each have just enough room to slip together. Same on any interchangeable between rings and cages.

China cages definitely do this but not cherry keeper CK devices.

I see. Mine is an authentic Cherry Keeper from Shapeways. I wonder if they would replace it?

Try boiling it for a few minutes then see if you can reshape to fit your needs. I’m not sure what the glass transition temperature is on Shapeways Nylon but it can start as low as 70c depending on formulation. You should be able to heat, reshape, clamp then immerse in cool water to set shape. Reshaping could be far less hassle than trying to send it back.

Interesting idea. I don't think it's a shape thing, it's a manufacturing tolerance thing. The ring portion should slide snuggly into the cage receptacle and not have enough separation between the two to be able to wiggle it like that. At least that's what I think it should do.

I suppose if I do that I could maybe bend the ring a little forward to decrease the gap, then the wiggle might just return it to normal, but I run the risk of ruining it entirely.

I shouldn't have to "remanufacture" it at home. It should not be like this to begin with.

Sounds like manufacturing tolerance issues. My most recent ring was slightly too tight in the connector. I just very quickly sanded it back and it was fine.
