My KH is traveling for 2 weeks on 10th August..

We are wondering whether she needs to leave me unlocked (not ideal!), Leave me the code to the key lock here (also not perfect) .... Or is there another way...?

    Help and ideas gratefully received.

Do you have any life obligation that could demand you to be release while she's oversea ? if not & that just "in case", in my opinion, if there is no imperial need for release, you should stay locked, & she could text you the code if needed, if there is, pictures proof before release, after release, & when relocked, with date & time could work I guess (then you should have access to the code)

There's nothing like a medical appointment, but sometimes I ask to be released for a particular kind of workout or yoga class and She will allow it. We are wondering whether there is a secure way of doing this.

okie dokie, well in that case, the cheapest way to do that imo is the picture verification with you knowing before hand the code, & your KH trusting you ^^

There are some smart lockboxes that work remotely and offline:
    • Igloo Home Smart Lock Key Box
    • Master Lock Electronic Wall Mount Key Safe
    • Populife Bluetooth Smart Key Lock Box
So you could put the key in there and if there is an emergency you can ask her for a one-time code for the lockbox. Once you relock your cage and relock the lockbox, you'll need a new code, so no cheating possible.

I didn't know there was lockbox out there that allowed you to get one-time code & a master code at the same time, I will check this as well for me, looks very handy ^^ ❤❤❤

I put the keys in a tamper-evident deposit bag and send her the pictures. When she allows me to unlock I show her the bags again to demonstrate I didn't unlock early.

Another technique I've heard of is to get a digital safe with an eight-digit combination. If she chooses the combination randomly, she can tell you to set it and you won't remember it, especially if she has you repeat back lots of random numbers after setting it. However don't get one of the safes you can unlock by dropping :)

Maybe she should just take the key. Is there a reason that you can not make do with a home yoga workout for the two weeks? Although I do feel that @Gabb-tv had the best idea with the photo verification.

Mine has been gone for a month and has just been extended for an indeterminate amount of time due to major car issues.

Search Amazon for “numbered security cables”.

Something that I use for emergencies that is sometimes used for normal conditions is a key in a tube that is sealed. If the tube is clear enough, she can tell if it's the correct key or not.
SO, before needing to use the key, I verify that the original seal is still secure and in place and obviously my bits are still locked. THEN, break the seal (and show a picture of that key in the lock) and do what I need to do, then relock and reseal the key, send a picture of the key resecured with it's new seal on it, and also in the image that I'm locked again..
There's a lot of trust in using this or any key box. Once there's a trusted method that both lockee and holder are confident in it's process and it's not abused or in any way faked, it's a lot easier to work together to be able to 'trust' in not only the lockee's efforts, but the system itself that is used to ensure that there is a key available, but that it doesn't get used unless needed and permission is granted to do so. It takes some getting used to!!
At first, be overly attentive to proving the concept.. either video the entire process or at least snap pictures along the way and write up a summary of what you did with time-stamps along the way.
The seals don't have to be exactly one form or another, just have to have unique 'serial numbers' or something that can be identified as 'this is the correct seal that was placed on the key'... There are plenty of sources, but you can get the little plastic ones that say 'keyholder' on them or get a batch of 'inventory' seals, or even like cable TV providers use on coax... I've got pictures on here of the one that I use somewhere....

Get a blue tooth master Lock box that is controlled by an app.
It will let you keyholder send you a one time unlock code in an emergency. You can then send her a picture of you locking the box back up. You will have no way to get back into it once it is locked again.
We use this for the emergency key. It has never been needed.

I've known 6 people personally to have spent $150 each on those and each have thrown them away. Batteries die and although the concept is wonderful, they couldn't be relied on for longer than a week or so.

Yeah, just get some type of "safe" that you can put a plastic lock with a number or design on it that can't be copied... and in case of emergency you cut the lock. If she doesn't approve of the reason, I guess you are in trouble.

I personally keep something like this with me at all time just in case there is an emergency.

The one we have got is still going strong after over 6 months.
    It works fine.
These lock boxes are designed for long term exterior use. For holiday house rentals. So regular use over a long period.

Bluetooth devices would indeed be great if they worked, but all the reviews I read are a big deterrent. There’s always a problem, either with the app or the device itself. Too bad! Numbered security cables won't work with all cages but around some kind of safety box, that's an idea! For best results, the release/lockup procedure should be effected under her supervision over videoconference, so she could check the cable numbers. This would require a little coordination, but I'd say it's entirely worth it.

I was referring to using them to seal a key in a tube, not the cage itself...

I keep trying to add the picture I've posted here but can't seem to figure out how... So, here they are again

Even simpler solution. How I wish this could be done with a Bluetooth padlock! The KH could unlock it remotely and be notified when the padlock is closed again. I know there are some out there, but none seem to work reliably. Maybe in the future…

Have you thought about the cell mate device? It’s a blue tooth cage, seams to work quite well from the reviews I’ve seen.
