Clear paint for plastic (CB line)

I like your idea, and I also wish for the same. Perhaps if you go to a local hobby store they might have spray paint used for the lexan bodies of remote control cars. that paint is specifically designed for plastics.

 

Krylon makes a plastic-specific spraypaint line called Fusion. You might give that a try.

 

What about using a dye for plastic?

 

In general, dyes won't penetrate plastics.

 

There are dyes specify made for plastic that will penetrate.
I wouldn't have suggested it if I hadn't researched first.
One of the first things I found was this youtube video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zOy7JbIKEkg which granted they are using white plastic parts for an r/c vehicle but should still work on clear plastic.
Later I found this http://www.ee0r.com/proj/dyepyramids.html where they are using clear plastic pyramids but also say they used the same Rit Dye used for tie-dye.

 

There are hundreds of kinds of plastics and they all have different properties. The CB range is made of polycarbonate (trade name Lexan, Calibre, and others)...and there are dyes made specifically for polycarbonate, but they are expensive. I have heard of people using RIT dye on polycarbonate, but it generally involves mixing it with acetone or some other solvent which dissolves polycarbonate in order to melt the plastic's surface and give the dye something to bite to. I don't recommend this approach for reasons which should be pretty apparent.
