Okay simple question for the older crowd. List your top 8 bands or vocalist from 60s, 70s and 80s no pitcular order. The Rolling Stones, The Animals, The Eagles, The Beach Boys, Lynnard Skynyrd, Molly Hatchet, Marshall Tucker Band, The Outlaws. Those are a few of mine. I couldn't even think about all the music I've listened to over my lifetime. I chose those 3 decades cause I grew up in those eras. So give is your.

sounds like you favor Southern rock, I’m with you and love all the ones you list. But my favorite is Bob Seger and The Silver Bullet Band.

    after that
    2. The Eagles
    3. The Doobie Brothers
    4. Eric Clapton (yea he’s not a band but he’s amazing with the various ones he’s been in and so,o
    5. Heart - Ann Wilson’s voice melts me
    6. Pat Benetar - like Ann Wilson, Benetar’s voice also melts me. Plus she’s so damn sexy, hell at 60 she still looks amazing, and her husband is a grossly underrated musician. His guitar work is incredible and he’s likewise on keyboard.

After this it gets hard as there are so many I really like. Everyone you listed could be next on my list.

But I’d have to put Chuck Berry at 7 as without Chuck, “all Chuck’s children’s” wouldn’t be “out there playin his licks” (bonus for those who know what song this is from). He was just amazing and the more I listen to him the more I think so.

grrr and who to add to this list. I think Kenny Aronoff may be the best living drummer, but I think John Melloncamo is an ass. But I like his music which he doesn’t enjoy playing for audiences.

Grand Funk RR is a favorite. And Don Brewer is also an amazing drummer. Chicago has so many hits and albums and amazing songs I don’t think I have time to listen to all ten billion of their albums.

So I’ll throw a curve and say Waylon Jennings and the Highway Men for 8. No one was as bad ass as him. Plus you gotta love a guy who poked fun at himself by writing the lyric “and my momma don’t understand why they keep showing my hands but nit my face on TV”

In no particular order, here are some examples of rock artists from that era that I still listen to on repeat today

Susanna Hoff (of the Bangles) Still looks and sounds amazing today.
    Doobie Brothers
    Heart
David Gilmour (with or without Pink Floyd)
    Led Zeppelin
    Lynnard Skynyrd
    Billy Joel

Sometimes depending on my mood (maybe a refractory period)
    Bon Jovi
    Def Leppard
    Motley Crue

Isn't it interesting how all lists thus far reflect listeners of "a certain age range"! I'm reading through each of those posted going, "yeah, that's on my list too."
    My "classic" list is:
    Zeppelin
    Floyd
    Genesis
    Peter Gabriel
    Kate Bush
    The Eagles
Fleetwood Mac (and Stevie Nicks solo)
    70's Elton John
    Supertramp
    Tom Petty

But also a huge fan of a slightly younger crowd:
    Massive Attack
    Blue Nile
    Elbow
    George Michael
    Goldfrapp
    Melody Gardot
    Archive

    And so much more!

    Steve Forbert

    and Kate Bush (unlucky 9th)...

I'm a little young to say I grew up in those times (I'm an 80's child), but I came from a musical family and most of the music I still listen to is from those eras. In no particular order:

    Aerosmith
    Guns N Roses
    Rolling Stones
    CCR
    Led Zeppelin
Fleetwood Mac (probably an obvious one if you think about it....)
    Queen
    The Doors

Don't forget about Tommy Roe. He had some great music.
