I do not deny I mentioned Brexit. I did not know at the time you wasn't allowed to discuss it here and as I said I am perfectly capable of shrugging off

I don't want anyone to leave including me.

Did someone forget that this is going to be legislation? It doesn’t particularly matter what we think or what we say, it is going to happen. Much better to try and work out the legislation and see how it will affect people.

Reading the legislation, any site where payment is required will be covered. Free sites will mostly all be covered as well because of Regulation 2(3) –

if the pornographic material is made available free of charge and the person who makes it available receives (or reasonably expects to receive) a payment, reward or other benefit in connection with making it available on the internet.

If any site offering free porn has ads on it, that means it will be subject to the regulations.

I have to say that I am happy that something is being done to try and stem the tide of porn freely available to minors. Too often are we hearing of young girls being physically damaged whilst their “boyfriends” act out some porn scene they have watched. As for “incels” and their opinion that they have a right to have sex with women – I have no words. Being a young female is becoming more and more dangerous as young boys become desensitised to sexual violence.

This legislation has been put forward in a desperate attempt to protect young women from sexual exploitation and danger. I would think adults should be supporting that, not complaining.

I often look at these types of issues from a contrarian point of view.
If there was a simple and easy way to stop minors from viewing porn, we'd already be doing it.
    We aren't, therefore there isn't.

Like many issues, it isn't a problem with porn as such. Knife crime isn't really a problem with knives per se, gun crime isn't really about guns, etc etc.
    It's a problem with society.
And there isn't an easy or straightforward answer to that.

To me, this smacks more of bureaucrats being seen to be doing something regardless of whether it'll be effective or not and irrespective of unintended consequences.

As no british government in my experience has ever been too good in the area of common sense I suspect there were some very strong determining factors in this decision which we may well never be privvy too.

None the less it is a big tick for what appears tro be common sense.
Not that I am in anyway implying that there should not be means by which we can exclude under 16s from accessing porn.

But I still think the answer to that is no mobile phones till they are 18 or married and absolutely no permitted internet access.
