If anyone is looking at playing their HD content from their PC on their TV can I suggest the wonderful Western Digital HD Player.

Got mine (70) hooked up to a 1TB hard drive (70) and can now enjoy all the different media formats I can throw at it as well as my music collection. 1080p playback is flawless even with HD-DTS sound. Have not had a media file it won't play!

Where are you getting files with DTS HD audio and are the files you're playing in *.MKV format?

    Cheers.

I source mine from newsgroups my friend and yes they are in .mkv format. They come in at around 15gb with HD audio. Although standard DTS sounds fantastic through a decent AV reciever. For example Transformers 2 sounds amazing with DTS HD but doesn't sound much worse with standard DTS, the difference in file size is 6GB.

avforums has a long thread on these little wonders should you wish to do more reading or if I can help you out I will be happy to do so.

Thanks, I'm definately interested in getting MKVs with HD audio (DTS HD or Dolby True HD).

What newsgroup do you get these from?

    Cheers.

I find mine with NZB matrix. Very similar to isohunt as you just type in "HD Audio" or "DTS HD" and you get hundreds of results. I have 50 meg cable at home and they come down at 40-45 meg speeds.

WD have bought out the new networked model now which is looking good

    Good info, thank.

I'm off to check NZBMatrix now!

You going to be online for a while? ;)

[Edit] - Do you need to register to be able to search on NZBMatrix?

Thats strange, usually works for me. Try isohunt.com and search Bluray . I've just done that and had a good few results. Ice age 3 is a whopping 25gb with HDMA

I just signed up with NZBMatrix (cost me 7 for the VIP upgrade to be able to search older titles!)

Any chance of a link on there (i have another 10 minutes to cancel my VIP upgrade purchase!)?

If you can use torrents then there are plenty on isohunt. As connections are the best here and in the US the vast majority of .mkv have DTS only. I also rent and rip titles to my hard drive retaining all soundtracks that are English and losing the rest, this brings them down to 16-22GB

    Thanks for that, much appreciated.

The thing is, I'm not a lover of torrents and MUCH prefer newsgroups for the speeds.

What I'm trying to find is NZB files for MKVs with HD audio-is there a specific newsgroup that carries these for example?

Also, I can't find a link to the WD networked player on the UK Amazon site, do you know if is it available in the UK yet?

    Thanks again.

    Thanks.

I currently use my PS3 to watch all my MKVs, but I'd like the ability to watch ones with HD audio.

Do you have to convert the audio to AC3 for PS3 playback? Also, As my cousin has a ps3 how do you hook up your MKV's? He keeps badgering me to see if I can sort him out with some blu ray movies but I'm not sure what's required with the PS3.

No, I just play them "as is".

I stream them from a server in the loft using an app called "PS3 Media Server".

    http://ps3mediaserver.blogspot.com/

I just set the shared folders in the options and then browse on my PS3.

The MKVs I grab all have DTS or DD 5.1, which is good, but as I say I'd like to find some MKVs with Dolby Tru HD or DTS MA HD.

I've been holding off on replying to this, but I'm such a technophile that I can't help it.

We have a Apple mac mini we use as a TV/Media centre. It has the Eye TV Diversity dual HD tuner plugged in the back, along with an external drive for storing all the TV shows. It hosts an iTunes library of all of our CD's, complete with artwork (GOD that took me a long time to put together) and acts as our DVD/CD player. It is connected to a 24" 1080p LCD from Dell, our Pioneer amp, and a set of Logitech wireless headphones for when you don't want to use the Amp.

This setup has virtually no footprint, and because its a computer and not a custom media server, I can get it to do things.. like I can log into it from my iphone and set a program to record if I'm out on the street.

We usually use the laptops to VNC and control the mac mini, so there isn't any keyboard or mouse in the way. We also have a 1TB NAS that we use to store all our .. ahem.. acquired movies.

It really is a fantastic setup and I only have good things to say. Everytime I think "Hey, it'd be cool if it could do that" it only takes me an hour to find a free app to make it happen, set it up and its done :D
