My wife and I will be going to Canada at the end of next month with some friends. She has informed me that she wants me locked up for the trip. We will be going to a hockey game and one of our friends wants to go to a strip club (which amuses my wife to no end). I'm usually in a metal device, but I'm going to need to be in a plastic one for security check points. I currently own The Vice but I can't wear it for long periods of time due to the hinge being extremely uncomfortable. The cage also is a bit too long and causes chaffing from the constant growing and shrinking I experience due to being a "grower."

If I could sort out the hinge problem, I would like to try the mini Vice cage to deal with the growing issues, but that would cost 80 bucks. I have been looking at the CB6000s but the price tag is a bit steep at 150 dollars. Is there a good knockoff plastic device that might be suitable since I will be in steel most of the time except for trips? Or has anyone solved the hinge problem on The Vice?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

I forgot to mention that I don't want to go with an integrated lock solution. They make me nervous.

You can get a CB6000S knock-off on Amazon under $20. For instance: https://www.amazon.com/CB6000s-Smal...=UTF8&qid=1540311873&sr=8-11&keywords=cb6000s

Note that the base rings of these CB knock-offs are grooved (I-bar cross-section instead of the rounded-square cross-section of the genuine, more expensive, article). That can get mighty uncomfortable after a while. But it is easily fixed by filing the groove with a skin-friendly material. In the days (long past) when I used that device, I poured unscented candle wax in the groove and it was comfy.

Thanks for the reply! I will look into that. If we DO end up going to a strip club, I hope the cage will hold up.

I bought one of the CB knock-offs on Amazon and it broke very quickly, not to mention it needed some fiddling at the start just to get it to go together. I was going to suggest a Holy Trainer clone but the OP doesn't want an integrated lock.

I'm not sure what's left. If you're just going to be wearing the plastic device for a few hours, maybe buy two in case something breaks.

It will be for a weekend. I am leaning towards getting the Mini cage for the Vice and see how that goes.

One way of dealing with the discomfort of a hinge on metal devices is to use a piece of surgical tubing to cover it. Maybe that would work for you?

I have tried that on other devices, but The Vice has the issue where the ends are very large, so it is pretty much impossible to get tubing over them that will be the appropriate size for the rest of the ring.

If your wife is going to be with you and presumably available to supervise, would it not be possible to switch from a metal to plastic device for the events that require plastic?

Seems to me if you find the hinged ring of the Vice uncomfortable, a different tube size isn't going to solve that problem.

You could use heat shrink tubing, the sort used for binding wiring looms together.
It comes in different diameters and colours so you must be able to find something to suit.

When it comes to doing things socially ( where beer is involved) I don't wear a cage. It's too awkward not being able to use urinals.
