Teenagers increasingly prefer family time to sex

I've been suspecting thus would happen for twenty years or so, based on going to festivals in the 90s. The twenty-something's then were so feckless and narcissistic and useless the only way their children could rebel - and every generation must rebel against its parents - was to become more sensible and careful.

We're well on the way to a return to Victorian morality.

I actually think it will. There has to be a backlash and we can see that the new generation are becoming increasingly conservative. It's the only way they can go. Their parents simply refuse to grow up, so they'll do it instead

More likely that they are too glued to their smart phones to socialise and have fun.

 

I'm not arguing about that as I'm sure that is one cause.

Others include desensitivation to so called sexual imagery as its all over the media all the time. Even in daily newspapers. The same can be said for desensitivation to porn in varying degrees also.

Additionally porn is responsible for many inexperienced people having unrealistic expectations of both the opposite sex and themselves coupled with feelings of inadequacy as they have come to regard 'porn stars' as the norm in all regards.; promiscuity build endowment capacity endurance and ease of quick responses to minimal stimulation.

Porn also effectively creates unrealistic expectations that first date sex will include oral anal him lasting forever then ejaculating a bucket load and her having orgasms almost immediately even squirting orgasms with very little effort on the part of all involved and there could very well be an ALL involved.

So much masturbation fodder around too. Is it any wonder the average teenager that increasingly can't really be motivated to do much in the real world anyway would just not care about having let alone pursuing sex with a real other person.

 

One of the things I find annoying is how often 'the young' are still referred to as millennial. The youth of today aren't the millennials, they're "generation z". And they generally have different and some very surprising divergences away from my millennial generation.

 

It takes time for generational distinctions.

 

As a twenty-something in the 90's I take exception to that
We were really the last great hedonistic party generation who knew how to have a good time and threw ourselves into it with abandon.
Feckless: yes, undoubtably, and all the better for it.
Narcisistic: absolutely not. That came later, with the generation of the entitled. We were many things, but we were certainly not that.

This is certainly a big part of it I feel.

I believe there's a very strong argument supported by the timeline, to indicate the role the internet (and by extension smartphones & social media) had to play in all of this.
We had no internet/social media growing up so we were forced to socialise properly, get out and about mixing with people, finding & making our own entertainment with likeminded souls. from our local area. We discovered things (and people) for ourselves, away from teh microscope of public (and authoritarian) scrutiny. Perversely, our limitations made us free.

30 years on the internet has had a huge homogenising effect on youth culture. Everything has to have a social media / internet presence now. There is no more individuality, no more underground. This has made our youth (who have grown up with all this) unbelievably narcisistic and "entitled" (percieved knowledge is percieved power) as well as painfully, almost unbearably politically correct.
These are just as much reasons for them being more sensible (more dull) than their parents.
Though it may appear as a backlash, I'm struggling to buy into the whole "rebellion by conformism" concept. Seems like an oxymoron to me.
They are just taking the easy safe option, because it is there for them.

Whatever. I partied my ass off with reckless glorious abandon throughout the 80's & 90's as a teen & twenty-something. Continued well into the 2000's and still do, although slightly more sedately these days
I don't regret a single second of it, and it makes me feel sad and depressed for the state of the world that today's kids aren't doing the same thing.

Good luck putting that particular genie back into the bottle! Though I wholeheartedly agree the world would be a better place for it. You appreciate something far more if you have to work a bit for it
