Keep the ring in until it's fully healed. A week is way too soon before removing the initial jewelry, you will risk infection as it is still an open wound.

Don't make the mistake of being too eager and putting in larger jewelry before it's ready. I was that person. My piercing didn't stop spotting red until over 8 months of having it. I had to gauge down before I went back up. Consider that wasted time. Read piercing guides on how to stretch. None of them say you can stretch right after initial healing time, and usually say that you need to wait up to twice the healing time after healing.

Listen to your body. You do NOT want to rush this. Wait until it's fully healed.

I'm not wanting to go a size up, just wanting to wear something that's more comfortable.

I agree you should switch out the ring. Be quick as the skin will try to close quickly. A trick I learned was to do it right after a long warm shower, softens everything up. If you are nervous see your piercer. The dull pain will subside, over time. You will fee some discomfort as the jewelry moves from side to side or binds in your shorts. This is normal and too will subside, but you may wince a little here and there.
    Most importantly, continue the soaks.

I was particularly drawn to the part where you were looking to go a size up in 3 weeks.

Either way, my recommendation is to stay with the ring. Personally I find rings more comfortable but others find bent barbells more comfortable.

Make sure that the ball is large enough that it does not slip into your urethra. If it does, then it you will have a large portion of the barbell sticking through your piercing and catching on way more things than your ring would

Ah, I see. Sorry. My piercer said to come back in 3/4 for stretching. I'm going to leave it longer after all the advice on here.

I'm sure the discomfort will pass soon enough, so will stick with the ring for now. Perhaps a bar later when stretching.

I liked the bent barbell. Rings do get pulled on more. Took me a while before I was comfortable with a ring. Yet people do heal in a ring.

I have a bijou. They are very light and 6g is likely fine. Am at 4g and that seems fine for the heavier Lori that I also have. I didn’t want a lager hole but am happy to have 4g for this and there is no reason to go smaller again..

5 weeks into the PA now and have been stretched... more painful than I thought it would be for me sadly.

Anyway, how long before it settles down again enough to enjoy it? To have sex and how long does it need to stretch before getting into a device again?

my first stretch was painful as well, way more than i thought but after a few days it was good. A week should be a enough, but listen to your body.

Soak it again in sea salt solution. That will sooth it and help with the healing.

The original piercing was only 5 weeks ago?

Hi, thanks for the advice. I've been soaking twice a day, every day for 5 weeks.

And yes it was 5 weeks ago I was pierced and a week ago since being stretched. This was on the advice of my piercer. She said to come back after 3/4 weeks. I gave it 4. She was very happy with how it had healed.

On top of all the other advice
    Id say
Of course....have it done by an experienced person preferably professional

Have the piercing done to 5 mm and have your piercer put in a 6mm

.. it will bleed much less and heal much faster the initial discomfort will be about the same.

DO NOT start putting strain on it too soon or for too long till fully healed.....

what is a few weeks wait when you consider what you had it done for?

4 weeks seems a bit short, but she is the expert.

I waited about 10 weeks until my first stretch from 8 to 6. Now I am at 2 gauge without any problems. The initial piercing was in November 2012, and I finished at 2 gauge in August 2013.

Might be the reason why it hurt quite a bit when moving up a size.

Yeah. For me, the stretching did not really hurt. It was more like a soreness. The soaks made it feel better.

Good luck with your new adventure!

thanks @capreolis for this thread and thanks for all the helpful responses.
We are thinking of getting a PA too. Pretty scary. Anything I need to let the piercer know in regards to the location of the piercing. I asked Dietmar from Steelworxx but he had no specific advice.

At least 3/4 inches back from the tip. It likely cannot be done in directly in the center, so have it done to one side. The device tube should be short enough that it won't matter for the device. Any force due to the off center hole should be directed towards the center of the penis, which is strong tissue.

Don't be scared, it is over in an instant, and does not really hurt. Expect some bleeding and soreness for a few days. Follow the advice of the piercer for the healing, which should include twice daily soaks in a warm sea salt solution. Don't use regular table salt.

Good info here. Make sure it is off set from the frenulum skin . After the piercing I'd done, keep it clean....clean.....clean.Gentle cleaning and soaks will make healing process go along nicely
