yes it can be dangerous if left like that for too long. I would recommend removing the ring next time.

Vericocele. If you’ve got them, as I do, they don’t have to be bad enough to present In day to day life, but the base ring can in the right (wrong) circumstances inflame them. Do it enough and it will become an issue. I NEVER could leave the base ring on without the cage. Lack of cage allows too much growth and the ring gets tight enough to do precisely what you describe.
