Chinese knock off HTv2 smells like petroleum (toxic?)

    Hi All,

    I normally wear a genuine HTv2, but now the base ring shows cracks and I changed it to use the Chinese Knock off of the HTv2 that I bought to fairly cheap try out different sizes of base rings.(the Ch-ones are supplied with the tube and all possible rings at only a fraction of the genuine HTv2,

    Very comfortable, but the petroleum smell is awful and really a turn down and even worrying for health issues,
    So I did a Google search and I fear this is toxic and thus it will come off again, as I don't want to risk anything.

    Does anyone else have the same experience with plastic Chinese knock off devices?
    Or am I worrying too much? (because I'm not at all knowing in & outs about toxic substances I rather be very cautious)

    I had exactly the same experience. I'd tried cleaning it, soaking it, leaving it outside in the sun steeping in white vinegar. None of that worked so I emailed the ebay guy I bought it off.. it was explained that it was some kind of resin smell that would wear off.
    I tried it. the odour lessened. I bought a steel one instead. the plastic one is pretty much odourless now but i dont wear it. I only bought it to try it.

    @Turma I happen to own one too Didn't use it so often though. Can you elaborate on why you think this toxic substance is in the Chinese HT.?

    I would avoid it. Some materials have chemicals added to them to act as plasticisers. Some of these are suspected to cause health problems. The smell is typically described as 'new car' smell. You cannot wash it off as it is part of the compound and can leach out through micro pores in the material.

    Lots of cheap sex toys are made with it.
