I have spent so much money on custom cages I'm done with that. I'm going to be making my own in my basement with the new tig setup. If anyone wants me to try and make them one let me know. Pm me. I'm thinking I want to try my hand at making em for a little side money so supply would be fairly limited.

Make sure you’re welding in an area with proper ventilation. Depending on the setup of your basement, it may not be safe to weld there.

    Ive dabbled with tig.

Be sure to get some stainless scrap and practice lots. its hard to polish all the little crevices in and around wire built cages so the best way to clean them up is to keep things nice from the start. can only do that with plenty of practice and tweaked settings.

I made my own cage, and modified one of the cheap Chinese ones from amazon to put a nut to accept a screw in spike for fun times. its definitely entertaining, and lets you experiment with different ideas and closure methods. Im currently debating on making another cage with a barrel large enough to take 3/16 round head rivet, the kind you need an air hammer and a bucking block to set. I may just go that route after i finish my long term experiments on hygiene to make sure i can keep the skin clean with a permanent closure that cant be removed for simple cleaning.

And i guess i would need a PA piercing by then too or no amount of rivet will truly prevent pullout.

Thanks for the tips. I'm doing this for automotive purposes as well. I'd like to make my own stuff in my own garage rather then have to depend others.

Sounds like one heck of a hobby, are you going to post more about this in the future?

I’ve used my TIG to modify the diameter of stainless base rings. I primarily use it for motorcycle construction. I just finished a polished stainless steel exhaust system for my bike.

You might find it handy to invest in a ring roller for cages.

Yeah I'm not going to making full belts, never found those appealing. I will keep posting updates on the journey.

How much does a workable used TIG unit cost?

I got one from ahp welding. It was 750 but I got 160 in Amazon gift cards by getting the credit card and then another 250 for a 80cf tank of argon. Idk why our gas prices where im at are so high.

I have an AHP unit and am very happy with it. You might consider upgrading the foot pedal for better control and look into Furick cups.

A tank refill should be much less since you aren’t buying the tank.
