Hey, I´m looking for a smart padlock, which i can set up and then give control to the lock to a keyholder remotely. anybody is using something like that or has any tips? i want to throw my chasity key in a box like this but with a smart padlock in front so my keyholder can only open remotely (like the cell mate - which i dont like because no PA-Support)

    Hi and Welcome,

I am not aware of a commercial offering that does exactly what you are after, you can get commercial locks that you can manually set a timer on and then you just have to wait it out, but I have not found a lock that is controllable remotely.

I ended up buying myself a cheap (£30) electronic safe which I took apart and added my own controller which allows it to be accessed over the internet and locked and unlocked by a key holder, and can also set it to just lock for a period of time if needed. A few sites like Chaster.app have an API that would allow devices like this to be controlled from there too. (on my to-do list for my safe)

If you dig around the internet there are some posts about others doing similar projects as well, I might be able to help with little bits here and there too but my available time can be very very sporadic.

The best option I found so far is the igloohome keybox3 but it would require the KH to setup the device on their app first. Then they can send you one time PINs to unlock the box.

Ideal device and almost certainly what I'd use if I rebuild my time safe. What do you use for non-volatile storage of times or passwords?

At the moment I'm storing it in eeprom, with a real basic implementation to reduce writes to similar sectors to improve is life a bit. :)

My wife and I store the key in her dresser with the same box. We use plastic security keys and I send her a picture of the key with the number on it so she can check to see if the lock is the proper one. It's a bit of a mind fuck looking at the lock and knowing that you could easily cut it and have access to the cage key.
