My hot pink Cherry Keeper arrived today. Of course, I raced to put it on.....here are a few thoughts for anyone considering such a device:

    1. The vendor that Josie Lynn uses is called Shapeways. Their service and quality appear excellent.
    2. The device is remarkably absent of any "mold" sprue or sharp edges. I may not need to do ANY smoothing with sandpaper.
    3. The device with the ergonomic rings (Oval, with a gently curved shape to conform better to the body) feels amazingly comfortable. Granted, I've only been wearing it for about an hour, but so far it's as if the thing has disappeared on me.
    4. I tried to get hard in it. NO room for that.
    5. This is not quite a "micro" cage but still very small. About 35% shorter than a CB6KS.
    6. My goal is to wear without lube so that I can wear much longer term. This makes putting it on trickier......but I can easily see the potential for longer wearings than with my "wet" approach with the cb6ks.
    7. If things pan out as anticipated, I will vote for 3D printing as THE way to go. Price is very low. Easy to experiment with sizing without breaking the bank.
    8. VERY lightweight. Lighter than even the cb6ks.
    9. VERY streamlined lock.

I may have to sand everything smooth someday. We shall see. But so far. I took it out of the box and off I go!

The description Josie Lynn uses of "egg shell" smoothness is rather accurate. I'd say JUST a bit rougher than an egg shell, but she isn't exaggerating.

Overall: I am impressed. As I develop meaningful updates I will share them--along with a bunch of photos. I wish to try things for a while, do a nice smooth shave job......so I look good in the photo.....no one likes hair on a chaste husband!

Feel free to ask any questions you may have--keeping in mind, I just got the thing hours ago.....

    Laz

If you're up for it I'd love to see a picture of the cage as I have had some interest in a cherry keeper. If not, a link to the exact model you went with?

I have a 3D printed cage I purchased from a Domme in Australia (along with a whole box of other gear lol). My Mature Metal Jailbird is still my favorite chastity device and the one I usually prefer to be locked in. However, the 3D printed device is a close second.

The best aspect of plastic is the light weight. The second is that the texture of the printed base ring tends to grip my skin and keep the device from rotating, which as we all know is a big element to being able to endure a device long-term.

However my 3D printed chastity tube has the 'Holy Trainer' style sliding dovetail clasp, and I'm totally not a fan of that joint for attaching the tube to the base ring. It sucks! It's too easy to trap loose skin in when putting the device on, and it throws off the base ring size. We need that thing tight but we shouldn't have to try 4 rings to figure out which one is the real size once the joint is included!! The ring-and-post of a traditional metal chastity 2-piece device is yet to be beat.

As my wife prefers me to stay unlocked overnight after a release (and generally wants me unlocked in the bed period), clasp design is a serious concern. I don't do long-term lock-ups, I do daily lock-ups. Ease of getting it off and on is a serious aspect of life with the device. Pinched skin, beat up testicles, and a waiting Domme aren't sexy.

I typed up that whole post and forgot the reason I answered. I ordered a 3D printer a while back and it should be arriving next week. It's for a business startup (my wife and I are serial entrepreneurs lol) but printing my own device is one of my first ideas. It's one of the most challenging things you can print (lots of open space, angles, overhangs) and print quality is demanding.

If I can perfect that, I can not only give myself the ultimate custom device, I will have learned a lot about the machine.

I have several more printers coming but there are very long lead time (months to arrive) and once the kits arrive I have to build the printers myself. This first machine is just practice, but I have years of experience with G code and plasma, laser, turrets, etc

OMG, you sooo cheated.. no permalocker....
Word on cleaning... when you feel the need to do so, swap it out with something else for a couple hours whenever you need to run the dishwasher (provided you have one?) and anything like soap-scum or other stuff will simply disappear. Vendor suggests fizzing denture cleaner, but I've run all of my devices from there through with extremely favorable results.

Thanks for the advice. I have been reading up on the slightly porous nature of the surface. I would not have guessed that, but I am very careful about bacterial growth. So frequent washings (I don't consider taking it off and washing the device a "release") are no issue for me.

I DO, however, would like your tips on putting the device ON. I like that I don't need lube once everything is inside, but do you use lube to insert your penis? Please share your technique on initial installation. Thanks.

For any device, mainly those with a solid base ring...
I use a product called BagBalm on sack and a small amount of water soluble light lube on shaft. Pull sack skin through, pop one ball at a time into the ring, then squeeze shaft in after them. Then, grab shaft skin with one hand and tuck head into shaft skin and hold skin over the tip, then carefully insert into the tube and align the two pieces and usually head pops into the 'head' of the device with a little resistance while getting the lock in and secured.. Using a q-tip/cotton swab, gently maneuver any skin that needs to be adjusted and then a quick rinse to get the lube off, a quick dry and done.

Thanks. So you DO use some lube......I am happy to see that my intuition matches with your considerable experience. The 3D plastic texture is a whole new ball game for me. (no pun intended) Metal, smooth plastic, etc.....all seem to rely on the smooth contact to allow movement within the device. Whereas the textured plastic seems to allow NONE. And I am quickly learning, that this is a good thing.

It does allow some, but most comfortably on the sack as stated needs a little for the skin to get settled...

What's the little hole just behind the lock?

Also do you feel like the printing quality is good enough for it to be sturdy? Any play in the fit of the ring to cage?

There are 'accessories' that can be attached to the two sets of holes, both behind and in front of the lock.
There is a little 'give'/flex to the assembly, but not much. Both manufacturers that I have gotten 3D devices from are quite similar in that although they have significantly different 'attachment' styles. I think I would call it just enough 'spring' to flex when needed, but it returns to it's static 'gap' as apposed to something loosely connected that flops around.

That little hole is to insert a pin to attach some of the accessories sold with the device. For example, there is something called a "unicorn" attachment that allows for you to wear a dildo while locked. I don't plan to utilize that hole, but it's small enough to ignore.

I was VERY impressed with the printing quality. This looks more like injection molded plastic than I thought. Only WITHOUT the parting lines of molded plastic which is the point of failure on those things. Therefore, this device appears and feels FAR stronger than the CBXX series.

The coupling of the cage to the ring is very robust and close fitting. Little/no play between them.

I appreciate your thoughtful words. It makes it truly worth it to share information because of members like you.

I'd like to add something, since you mention the notion of "first time" purchases: The economics of 3D printing and the pricing strategy of Josie Lynn (Miss Cherry Keeper) makes it entirely more economical to experiment.

If I were to buy a $350 Mature Metal Jailbird, I'd be very concerned about fit and such......But with the Cherry Keeper, I only need to spend about a tenth of that for a whole new cage. ($35)

So I now recommend to ANYONE seeking a new device to try the 3D printed route. They may lack the "steel is real" effect, but avoid the steep price for it.
