I have been using epilators for years and thought I had a decent one (Panasonic ES-ED90) although I was never really happy with it. I thought my issues were just an “epilator thing” so I just did what I could. Finally, I started doing some research and spent twice as much money ($120) on a Braun silk-epil 9 and I think it’s the best $120 I ever spent although I got laid off the day it arrived...

It grabs the finest hairs and much fewer break rather than come out. I’m really impressed with it and can’t wait to see how it works out long term. So if you have been thinking about trying an epilator, I highly recommend spending more for better quality. My legs and pubic area have never been smoother!

BTW, any epilator is going to hurt the first time so have a few glasses of wine and take your time or maybe even wax first. If you regularly maintain it, it is mostly pain free when you do it again because the roots aren’t as set in place and the hair is finer. Regular epilating/waxing makes the hair come back finer and thinner.

Do you only use on body? I assume it would be too painful for facial hair. Sounds nice tho, love feeling smooth, even if it means a bit more pain at times.

Coarse facial hair is a no go. Buy a laser package on Groupon.com for your face.

Definitely! I highly recommend though that you wax or tweeze sensitive areas with deep roots first then maintain with epilator. Invest in a good LED magnifying glass and some quality tweezers which anyone that epilated will occasionally need. The secret to success is aggressive exfoliation before using epilator. Just sterilize your tweezers and the area you are using them on when you tweeze so you can avoid the red infected pores which often cause ingrown hairs.

Hmm. I need to give this a try. I'm sick of shaving my pubic hair. My device is more comfortable when I'm hairless though.

Ive had mixed success with hair Removal cream. It works but some times my skin does not like it.

Jessica, any chance for a tasteful, modest example of what the epilator can do?

My keyholder is starting to talk laser........

Thank you if you can and/or are willing.

I highly recommend laser if you have the chance. It will look better, feel smoother and you will never have to mess with it. I’m hoping to get laser next year. Just make sure it’s a real laser and not IPL. IPL doesn’t work well on testosterone fueled hair growth. You want a YAG or Alexandrite laser and encourage them to use full strength, especially after the first time. There is less hair each time so it hurts less each time.

Not sure if the pic is helpful but here it is.

i use a epilator on my facial hair. almost always do that. means you have to let the hair grow in a bi, but it keeps me smooth for a few days instead of a few hours like shaving does.
its also easier on the skin and less ingrown hairs.

Thank you VERY much Jessica! I appreciate the additional detail as well as you taking the time to post the pic. That was helpful.

And, I have to add, a most pleasing photo to see overall! Modest, tasteful, and very feminine.

what model is that belt, by the way?

I've kept trying with my epilators. It took a very long time before I was able to get my calves done that way and never came close to anywhere else. It is so extremely overhwelmingly painful until going over an area or 3rd or 4th time where it is then just intensely painful. I've tried getting drunk for it even though I had my suspicions, and it just made it worse. Alcohol removes the ability to be distracted or focus away from/through things which just makes it hurt that much more.

Talking about it with other people there were a few who said it was the most painful thing they had ever experienced and wouldn't wish it on anyone. But I've also had a few who said it was never that bad to begin with.

My face/neck is actually the least painful area to do it but when I had the willpower to work through that it was making my face bleed.

Strange. My lower legs were the least painful. I’m sure we all experience things differently and your experience is as valid as mine but I think most people find it tolerable. I wouldn’t dream of trying it on my face. Can’t even tweeze a facial hair and it’s not recommended for men to use on the face either.

Epilators are a device made in HELL!
    I had the Braun Silk-Epi 9.
From my knees down, no problem.
My quads/thighs? Was so very painful. I even tried numbing cream to no avail.
And the regrowth on my quads? The red bumps and ingrown hairs left me looking like I was scarred for life.
It took a long time for that to clear up.
