Thoughts on downsizing?

I personally found that a proper fit is more important and smaller isn't always better as you can go too small.
From your pic though I'd think smaller would be better.

 

I think you do need a smaller cage. About half has long as the one in the picture might work well.
I tried a very short steel cage a few weeks ago and I was surprised that I had no issues during the night. This definitely convinced me that smaller is better. Right now I am in a slightly longer cage (about 2 inches) and it is working beautifully. I am on day 5 now without removing the cage. I hope to get to two weeks. Unfortunately I have a trip coming up in a week and a half that will cut this short, but I plan to be back in my cage when I get back and then I have several months free!

 

Votes for the "shorter is better" theme. Locked permanently in a 1 1/2" long MM Jailbird since July of 2015. Almost 3" long when it used to be flaccid. Mistress/Owner loves it since there is no possibility of having any form of an erection and when it often uncontrollably does try due to Mistress' exceptional beauty it is uncomfortable and much more frustrating.

 

I've recently gone from a plastic cage about 4" long to a smaller steel cage
(about 3") and it is incredible... while the base ring is the same everything else is smaller and its so comfortable and compact it means i can wear my thongs alot more easily than b4.
I also love how small it makes my cock look and with no chance of an erections it sends a powerful message to my brain that i am properly locked.

 

It sure looks like you have almost half an inch of free space...that’s alot of room for it to swell up and pull the device down.

I suggest a lot shorter cage, but a bit wider diameter. This gives room to keep clean, and when it does plump up it expands in width not length. Unless it’s custom, diameter isn’t usually an option though.

The best way to control an erection is to prevent it from happening in the first place, IMHO. A shorter cage quickly controls things for me from the first hint of arousal.

 

I was very surprised but I've found moving to a smaller cage much more comfortable and my Mistress prefers that I have just enough room to move around a little but not enough to get anywhere near erect. The smaller cage makes me feel as though I'm being more controlled too and we both like that aspect also.

 

I, too, have joined the 'smaller is better' crowd. My first cage was a KingYuan knock off, but it was full tube and needed to be removed for cleaning. I then tried a silicon one, but that was just horrible and smelly and chafed. The third was much shorter, and open cage style. I loved it til the integrated lock fell apart. My new one is on order, half the size of my last, and has a removable retention ring with spikes to help prevent pull-out. Can't wait til it gets here, probably sometime in May.

All my chastity devices have gotten smaller over the years. No my penis hasn't shrunk, part of it is realizing I am not as big as a I think I am and that suppressing the erection is more comfortable than a half or full erection.

With a suppressed erection the cage is less likely to pull away from my body and therefore hurts less.
